The
rapid pace of urbanization throughout the world presents new opportunities for
people to build their homes and lives -- but urban spaces also sharpen existing
inequalities and create new ones. For women, fear of violence has emerged as a
significant barrier to their mobility and well-being in cities. Working in four
cities on four continents --Delhi in India; Petrozavodsk in Russia; Rosario in
Argentina; and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania -- Women in Cities International
identifies effective policies, tools and strategies to build safer cities for
women to live, move around and work in.
