Announcing a call for participants for an exciting five day
workshop on ‘The politics of food, gender roles and environmental change’ 17 to
24 October 2010 (included travel) at the beautiful Convento S.Maria del Giglio,

programme for adult learners from EU countries (plus SEE countries and
The full scholarships cover all travel and accommodation. Participation without
scholarship is also possible by covering travel, food and accomodation

The workshop will explore the intersection between food systems, gender and environment, looking at the multiple links between food, gender and environment through a series of lectures, laboratories and field trips. The workshop will be run by well known international gender experts included Wendy Harcourt as part of their efforts to build a European wide network to encourage greater awareness of ‘slow food’, traditional cuisine and how to appreciate the importance of women’s roles in food production and culture.
Topics to be covered during the workshop:
1. multisectoral perspective on the transformation of food systems produced by
industrialisation and globalisation of markets
2. the rise of agribusiness and about the commodification of food in food
industry
3. institutions and
policies at European and international level - the essential stakeholders in
the food panorama.
4. transformation of food systems and related economies through a gender lens
(changing role of women towards food, women in workforce and in food industry,
women in agriculture and in agribusiness) and gain an understanding of main
issues debated in ecofeminism on the topics
5. slow food movement in
6. traditional knowledge on food preparation through hands-on sessions
7. blogs and other social media for disseminating information, creating
networks of people with common interest, document the learning experience
