ROLE OF the ARMED FORCES in the IMPLEMENTATION OF UNSCR 1325

The United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW as part of UN Women), the Swedish National Defence College, and the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) are pleased to announce the launching of a three-week virtual dialogue “The Role of the Armed Forces in the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325)”. The discussion aims to highlight existing efforts and to strengthen the analysis and replication of good practices. Additionally, the discussion seeks to foster the dynamic exchange of experiences and information between armed forces personnel, civil society, peacekeeping personnel, academics, policy-makers, and members of INGOs with expertise, working experience or a general interest in the role of the armed forces in implementing UNSCR 1325.
UN-INSTRAW, the Swedish National Defence College, and DPKO will facilitate the discussion to identify the UNSCR 1325 implementation measures already being taken by the armed forces and what impact these measures have yielded. The discussion will be divided into three thematic weeks:

Existing initiatives on UNSCR
1325 within the armed forces
WEEK
2
Measuring the impact
of actions taken by the armed forces to implement UNSCR 1325
WEEK
3
Current challenges in the role of the armed forces in UNSCR 1325
implementation and recommendations
Logistics: The discussion will be held in English (contribution of resources in Spanish and French is encouraged) on the UN-INSTRAW Virtual Dialogue Forum.
