Heavy rain and a brush from Tropical Cyclone Laila caused major flooding throughout Sri Lanka last week.

Flood waters are beginning to recede and according to AccuWeather.com meteorologists, drier weather is in the forecast through this week.

Many of the flood-affected residents are starting to make their way back home after nearly 600,000 were displaced in 14 districts. Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara were among the hardest hit by torrential rains and massive mudslides.

This is the worst flooding Sri Lanka has seen since the tsunami that hit the region in December 2004.

The same system is now bringing heavy rain to Bangladesh.
