Europe - Homelessness Up Close
In Welcome HomeLess is a different and vivid way of
letting the citizens of We want to make a
difference
But not all homeless people are welcomed to a life in happiness. The
exhibition is not about politics and it is not about pointing out ‘scapegoats’
– it is all about informing the citizens of Europe in a local, national and
international level about homelessness. In relation to the European Year 2010
of Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, Welcome HomeLess will help reach
out to the European citizens and make them stop for a minute or two. We are
interested in creating debates and discussions concerning homelessness in all
shapes and sizes. If you are a NGO within the field of homelessness, you can also be a part of the touring exhibition. Write us an e-mail and learn more about Welcome HomeLess. |

Homelessness is not only a national problem - it is a European
problem. Many of the former and current Danish MEPs have signed a Declaration of
Support, where they agree that homelessness is a serious problem that
should be taken very serious.
Excerpt:
A growing
number of homeless people are living as foreigners in European cities with
hardly any rights and only a few organizations to turn to. The debate
concerning the welfare of the European homeless is important, and something
both organizations within the field of homelessness and politicians need to
place into focus.

The
touring exhibition Welcome HomeLess illustrates
and speaks the case of the homeless and creates
awareness of the conditions that homeless Europeans live under.

The artist and activist Jens Galschiøt (DK) joins the homeless
organizations to put focus on the great number of homeless in Europe by visiting
the European Parliament 12th to 16th April.
Galschiøt has created 13 big bronze sculptures of homeless people, all in
natural size. These very heavy sculptures are by now on their way to the
European Parliament to act as the start signal for a debate in all member
countries about the conditions under which the homeless have to cope.
