The
conference focuses on the question what municipalities and cities can do – as
service providers, employers and contracting bodies – to promote gender
equality and women’s rights.
Equality strategies and promotion of women influence “internal” structures in
administration as well as “external” in service provision for women living in
the respective municipalities and cities. An additional “external” impact that
equality structures of municipalities may have on the private sector is, when
it comes to linking public procurement/ contracts and payments to gender
equality clauses.
Target groups of the conference are women’s and gender equality officers,
offices or departments of city or municipality administrations. Equality
structures within cities in Europe differ broadly: the FemCities conference
strives to offer interesting inputs to all of them. Some cities start to set up
equality structures, others are mainly looking for detailed in-depth discussion
on implementing certain aspects of equality strategies. This conference strives
to cover all interests, addressing them in presentations, workshops and poster
presentations!
