CALL FOR INPUT - TRAFFICKING IN
PERSONS REPORT 2010 - US STATE DEPT.
Office to Monitor and
Combat Trafficking in Persons
Luis CdeBaca, Ambassador-At-Large
March
12, 2010
Dear Friend,
Our office has now begun the extensive
process of compiling information and drafting narratives for this year’s annual
Trafficking in Persons Report. Over the coming weeks, our dedicated
Reports staff will begin assessing nearly 200 countries around the world.
For the first time, this year the Report will include a ranking for the United
States. As Secretary Clinton has stated, “I believe when you shine a
bright light you need to shine it on everyone…we will rank ourselves.”
To produce the most comprehensive,
transparent, and updated report possible, we are asking for your
assistance. Today we published a notice in the Federal Register, Vol. 75,
No. 48, seeking written information to assist us in reporting on the United
States’ and foreign governments’ efforts to meet the minimum standards for the
elimination of trafficking in persons set forth in the Trafficking Victims
Protection Act of 2000, and its subsequent reauthorizations. The
information you provide is vitally important to producing an accurate record of
governments’ efforts to combat and eliminate human trafficking.
You can access the Federal Register notice
via the Federal Register’s main page (http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/)
under today’s date, or directly at http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/2010-5498.pdf.
We appreciate your assistance in circulating
this notice to your colleagues within the United States and
internationally. Thank you, in advance, for your participation in this
endeavor.
Sincerely,
Ambassador Luis CdeBaca
