KOREA REPUBLIC - WOMEN'S RIGHTS COMMISSION OF KOREA

In accordance with the Act on the Prevention of Prostitution and Protection of Victims enacted in September 2005, the Center for Women’s Human Rights was launched in November 2005 as a response to the need for a centralized support center that would help develop more efficient programs and improve expertise of anti-prostitution organizations and activists. After the Act was revised in 2008, the Center was renamed to Women’s Human Rights Commission of Korea in March 2009 with an aim to expand the organization’s roles in protecting women’s human rights.

Women’s Human Rights Commission of Korea pursues a society in which all individuals are valued and respected for their dignity regardless of their gender. The Commission strives to eradicate all forms of violence against women including prostitution and serve as a center in protecting women’s human rights. Its major activities include prevention of prostitution, support for victimized individuals, expansion of a support infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, and education and research on protection of women’s human rights.

The new CI of Women’s Human Rights Commission of Korea stands for hope, harmony, protection, and coexistence. It represents hope emerging from two hands holding each other. The leaf means affirmation and hope; and the two hands express harmony and embrace. Yellow stands for a strong support for women and happiness; green for hope; blue for protection of women’s human rights and the transparency and true zeal of the organization.
