"Women:
A New Paradigm" Open Discussion Series
In
the context of the project " Women:
A New Paradigm", Bahrain Women Association for Human Development (BWA)
will launch the third open discussion series on Saturday 2 January 2010 addressing
topics related to divorce, alimony, custody, and housing.
This third discussion
aims to: focus on the Qur'anic concept of divorce (retained in honor or
released in kindness) as to set practical tools or road map to meet its
intended purpose on both legislative and judiciary levels; contribute in the
reform of the judicial and legal status to ensure the rights of
ex-spouses after divorce.
BWA seeks to lay down proposals for laws and practical
strategies to ensure women's right to alimony, custody, and housing in the
context of "released
in kindness" and inline with a best practices implemented in
developed countries in this area.
The discussion will point out problems and difficulties commonly associated
with divorce such as equality between women and men. Also, it will look into
opportunities to bridge the gap between the current legislation and practical
applications in divorce matters with the attempt to find realistic solutions to
reduce social and institutional practices that oppress women in divorce cases.
BWA series "Women:
A New Paradigm" is a consciousness-raising initiative focusing
on : woman rights and her role which is meant to be an integral part of
humanity. The project is intended to benefit all sectors of society and deals
with women's issues in a new context.
This project was launched in March 2009 on the occasion of Family Day as an
attempt to activate the earlier Conference BWA organized in 2007
"Advancement of women .. a Human
Perspective ".

series seeks to bring understanding to controversial issues that has direct
impact on woman status and eligibility to perform her humanitarian role in
life. It also aims to
introduce and discuss new perspectives on religious issues related to women,
and shed light on certain cases that acts as
