Women in Cities International is a place of trade for the various partners concerned by issues related to gender equality and women's place in cities on five continents. Its main objectives are:

·         Develop a network of trade internationally on women's participation in development towns and communities and taking into account the gender approach in municipal management;

·         Encourage the development of trade between different areas (women's groups, NGOs, cities and municipalities, research, private sector, media, international bodies, etc.).

·         Organize activities to share expertise, training, promotion of good practices, as well as seminars and conferences;

·         Promote trade between local authorities in this field;

·         Advise local governments, national and international bodies involved working in the field of gender equality and the management of cities and communities.

In the current context of the increasing role of cities to global issues of women's participation in urban development and taking into account the different needs of women and men in urban management are at the heart of the challenges must be met for either setting up a "good urban governance".

Since the early 90s and especially in the aftermath of the global conferences of the United Nations on Women (Beijing 1995) and cities (Istanbul, 1996), many partners have mobilized around these issues. Several networks bring together women's groups, nongovernmental organizations, cities, associations of cities, researchers, governments, international agencies and UN agencies.

We hope that Women in Cities International is one of the international hubs that contributes to the advancement of practices and knowledge in this field.

The issue of women's safety is a priority identified in both cities in the North than in developing countries has led to a First International Seminar in Montreal in May 2002. We hope to develop other aspects related to the problem, thanks to trade with our partners, that is to say yourself.

You can become a member of Women in Cities International if you share goals and want to put your expertise to the network. In this case, thank you kindly complete the Membership Form. Women in Cities International is a member of the Huairou Commission.
