TRIBAL WOMAN FLOGGED, ACCUSED OF
PROSTITUTION
Balasore
(Orissa): A 25-year-old tribal woman
in Balasore district of Orissa was reportedly tied to a tree and beaten up for
her alleged involvement in flesh trade.
The incident reportedly took place in a busy market
place of village Soro in Balasore district.
“I was walking on the road when few young men
started abusing me in filthy language. When I protested they tied me up and
started beating me,” says the victim.
The police have arrested three men on the charges
of abusing and beating the woman.
"If they had any complaint against the woman
they could have lodged it in the police station. They have no right to beat her
up like this,” says Inspector-in-charge Soro, Manas Deo.
Meanwhile, human right activist and advocate Pravir Kumar Das has filed a petition before the National Commission for Women.
