! Urgent information: Violation of the right to freedom of opinion and expression continues in Honduras: Closing of ‘Feminists in Resistance’ Radio Programmes
Today by way of written communication the administration of Radio Cadena Voces, owned by Ricardo Maduro Joest, ex-President of Honduras, informed the feminist organisations Centro de Derechos de Mujeres (CDM) and the Centro de Estudios de la Mujer -Honduras (CEM-H), that their radio programmes “Tiempo de Hablar” and “La Bullaranga” would be closed.
These programs, originally were conceived to develop specialised coverage of the issues with which Honduran women live, were usually transmitted weekly one hour broadcasts, but during since the Coup d’Etat on 28th June, 2009, they felt obligated to open this space in order to discuss and broadcast the most relevant events and testimonials of the serious situation occurring in the country.

BREAKING THE IMPUNITY OF
VIOLATIONS OF WOMEN’S HUMAN RIGHTS IS KEY TO RESOLVING HONDURAN CRISIS
August 5, 2009

Radio Internacional Feminista
Resolution of the crisis in
Honduras needs to include feminist and women’s perspectives, including a
commitment to break the impunity surrounding violations of women’s human
rights, both in the recent military coup d’etat, and going back to the 1980s
with the dictatorships in Honduras.
This is a central imperative of
“Honduran Feminists in Resistance,” a group working with feminist and women’s
organizations in Central America, Mexico and the United States........

HONDURAS: GLOBAL CALL TO ACTION AGAINST POVERTY CONDEMNS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND CALLS FOR PEACE
October 1, 2009
"Representatives of the
Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) alliance worldwide has come
together to condemn the ongoing political situation in Honduras, following the
deposition of President Manuela Zelaya in June’s unlawful coup d’état. GCAP
believes that peace and stability are essential conditions for the eradication
of poverty and inequality and the achievement of the Millennium Development
Goals.
“It is the people’s wish that we
reestablish the government elected by the people without further delay,” said
GCAP Regional Coordinator, Viviane Castro. ‘Without this any attempt at
elections will be fraught with problems,” she added.
GCAP coalition representatives in
Honduras recount that they are afraid for their personal security and that
increasingly violent attacks on demonstrators at the hands of the
unconstitutional government are destabilizing the country, which already
suffers from a high level of poverty and inequality1.
“There are major breaches of
democracy and accountability going on in Honduras. Not only have Constitutional
Guarantees protecting freedom of speech been suspended, but attacks on
demonstrators are increasingly violent. This complete lack of respect for
democratic institutions and human rights, is totally unacceptable and must end
immediately,” said Sylvia Borren, Co‐Chair of GCAP.
Regionally, GCAP coalitions have
issued a joint statement to condemn the actions saying, “We express our support
to the Honduran people now in their 95th day of resistance to the coup regime,
many of whom have already lost their lives in the struggle for a return to
democracy. We also express our unreserved support for the democratic government
of President Zelaya Rosales and call on our governments to take urgent action,
under the rule of international law, to ensure the integrity of the people of
Honduras for the early restoration of democracy in that country.”
