IIAV HAS CHANGED TO ALETTA,
INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN'S HISTORY
The International Information Centre and Archives for the Women’s Movement
(IIAV) has changed its name. From August 11 2009 it is known as Aletta, Institute for Women’s History.
Please visit our completely renovated website and add www.aletta.nu to your bookmarks.
The name change has an important background. We want to be more accessible to a
broader public, and we have chosen a more open name as part of our endeavours
to gain greater visibility in the Netherlands and internationally. ‘Aletta’ is
a reference to one of the most famous Dutch feminists of the 19th end
early 20th Century, Aletta Jacobs. We chose the 80th anniversary of her death
as the date of our name change. But Aletta is more than a reference to an
inspiring woman. It is a reference to all women who dare to make change happen.
Our website, already one of the most used sources of information on women
worldwide, has been completely overhauled. The most important change is that
there is one single, googlian search function that infiltrates all our
databases, giving you immediate access to articles, images, book titles,
archival documents and much more. We are now also part of PiCarta and WorldCat http://www.worldcat.org/ , the largest
bibliographic databank in the world. Please note that we are still developing
the website, so please excuse a spelling mistake, a missing copyright
acknowledgment etc here and there. We are busy testing and improving, but we
want you to be able to access the wonderful wealth of information now. If you
do find errors, or you would like to convey your compliments or suggestions,
please write to webmaster@aletta.nu
Sincerely
