Millennia 2015, Women Actors of Development for the Global Challenges
Results of the Millennia 2015 Global Experts Study - Developments
to
Improve the Status of Women:
- The Millennium Project
As many of you know, The
Millennium Project is a global participatory futures research think tank of
futurists, scholars, business planners, and policy makers who work for
international organizations, governments, corporations, NGOs, and universities.
The Millennium Project manages a
coherent and cumulative process that collects and assesses judgements from its
several hundred participants to produce the annual "State of the
Future", "Futures Research Methodology" series, and special
studies such as the State of the Future Index, Future Scenarios for Africa,
Environmental Security, Applications of Futures Research to Policy, and a 700+
annotated scenarios bibliography.
It connects local and global perspectives via
regional Nodes (groups of individuals and institutions) in Argentina (Buenos
Aires); Australasia (Melbourne, Australia); Azerbaijan (Baku); Bolivia (La
Paz/Santa Cruz); Brazil (Sao Paulo); Brussels-Area (Brussels-Namur); Central
Europe (Prague, Czech Republic, Bratislava, Slovak Republic, and Warsaw,
Poland); Canada (Kingston); Chile (Santiago); China (Beijing); Cyber Node,
Internet; Egypt (Cairo); Finland (Helsinki); France (Paris); Germany (Essen/Berlin);
Gulf Region (Kuwait); India (New Delhi and Madurai); Iran (Tehran); Italy
(Rome); Japan (Tokyo); Korea (Seoul); Mexico, Mexico; Peru (Lima); Russian
Federation (Moscow); Silicon Valley (US); Slovenia (Ljubljana); South Africa
(Pretoria-Johannesburg); Turkey (Istanbul); United Arab Emirates (Dubai); UK
(London); Venezuela (Caracas); Washington, DC (coordinating office).
The Millennium Project was selected among the
"100 Best Practices" by UN Habitat, best 7 foresight organizations by
Battelle Northwest for the U.S. Department of Energy, and among the "Top
Picks" by Future Survey, of the World Future Society.
The purpose of the Millennium Project is to be
an international utility to assist in organizing futures research by
continuously updating and improving humanity´s thinking about the future and
making that thinking available for feedback as a geographically and
institutionally dispersed think tank.

Millennia 2015
The partnership between The Millennium Project
and the foresight research process of Millennia 2015 is strong and projects are
in progress.
As a member of the MP Brussels-Area Node, I have presented two reports to the
Millennium Project 2009 Planning Committee, 16 July 2009:
- the Brussels-Area Node 2009 Report
and
- the Results of the Millennia 2015 Real Time Delphi
"Developments to Improve the Status of Women".
Other members of Millennia 2015 Community have
presented interesting reports such as:
- The Millennium Project team - Jerome C.
Glenn, director, Theodore J. Gordon, senior fellow and Elizabeth Florescu,
director of research: Futures Research Methodology Version
3.0; Environmental scanning to update the
15 Global Challenges; State of the Future Index (SOFI); Real-Time Delphi advances; Elements of a Future Economic System; Highlights of studies using RTD; International emerging environmental
security issues --summary and key findings and insights from monthly scanning
reports.
- Rosa Alegria (Brazil Node co-chair),
Cornelia Daheim and Vanessa Watkins (Germany Node), Nadezhda Gaponenko (Russia
Node co-chair), Miguel Angel Gutierrez (Argentina Node chair), Hazel Henderson
(Ethical Markets Media president), Zhouying Jin (China Node chair), Geci
Karuri-Sebina (South Africa Node co-chair), Concepcion Olavarrieta (Mexico Node
chair), Youngsook Park (Korea Node chair) and Mohan Tikku (India Node

State of the Future
The Millennium Project has just published the
"2009 State of the Future", including the MP Challenge 11 about
"Status of women" and the Millennia 2015 Real Time Delphi report.
The 2009 State of the Future, a “report card
on the future”, distills the collective intelligence of over 2,700 leading
scientists, futurists, scholars, and policy advisors who work for governments,
corporations, non-governmental organizations, universities, and international
organizations. The "2009 State of the Future" comes in two parts: a
100-page print executive summary and an attached CD containing about 6,700
pages of research behind the print edition and the Millennium Project's 13
years of cumulative research and methods.
Some unique features not available in other
global assessments include:
- International assessment of 35 economic
elements of the next economic system that could help improve the human
condition over the next 20 years;
- 15 Global Challenges Prospects, Strategies,
Insights;
- State of the Future Index with and without
the world recession;
- Emerging international environmental
security issues;
- applications of the Real-Time Delphi
technique;
- 750 annotated scenario sets;
- and much more futures intelligence on
technology, environment, governance, and the human condition.
It is produced by the
Millennium Project with its 32 Nodes (groups of futurists and organizations)
around the world, which collects, feeds back, and assesses insights from
creative and knowledgeable people on emerging crises, opportunities, strategic
priorities, and the feasibility of actions.
