DCAF Releases Training Resources on
National Security Policy-Making and Gender

DCAF is pleased to present the latest addition to its Gender and SSR Training Resource Package, the attached training resources on National Security Policy-Making and Gender.

These include:

Ø Key messages for training on National Security Policy-Making and Gender;
Ø 11 training exercises, from 35 to 110 minutes, suitable for use in training on policy-making as well as dedicated gender training;

Ø Topics and tips for facilitating discussions on National Security Policy-Making and Gender
Ø Case studies from Jamaica and Israel

Developed as a companion to the Gender and SSR Toolkit, the Gender and SSR Training Resource Package is a series of practical training materials to help trainers to integrate gender into SSR training, and to deliver effective gender training to security sector audiences.

The Gender and SSR Training Resource Package is designed for:

Ø People providing SSR training, education and capacity building
Ø People providing gender training to security sector policymakers, practitioners and personnel

The Gender and SSR Training Resource Package contains:

Ø A Guide to Integrating Gender in SSR Training: how to take into account gender issues throughout the SSR training cycle—in training needs assessment, learning objectives, design and development of training, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and follow up.

Ø Sets of training resources on:

*       Security Sector Reform and Gender
*       Police Reform and Gender
*       Defence Reform and Gender
*       Parliamentary Oversight of the Security Sector and Gender
*       Civil Society Oversight of the Security Sector and Gender
*       National Security Policy-Making and Gender

Over the coming months, further training resources will be available on:
*       Justice Reform and Gender
*       SSR Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation and Gender
*       Border Management and Gender

These training resources have been developed to suit a range of training audiences, including:

Ø Ministries of Defence, Justice, Interior or Foreign Affairs
Ø Security sector institutions
Ø Security sector oversight bodies
Ø Parliamentarians and parliamentary staff
Ø Civil society organisations
Ø Donors, international and regional organisations
