Greetings
from International Women’s Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW Asia
Pacific)!
We’re
happy to announce that IWRAW Asia Pacific in collaboration with the New Women’s
Foundation and the Equality Without Reservation Coalition will conduct a Training
of Trainers on the Optional Protocol to CEDAW and Removal of Reservations to
CEDAW for women’s human rights leaders and activists from the Middle
East and North Africa (MENA). The training will be held from 28 September 2009 – 1 October 2009 in Cairo, Egypt.
The
training is aimed at building the capacity of women’s groups in the MENA region
to lobby their governments to ratify the OP CEDAW and remove reservations to
CEDAW to further the implementation of the CEDAW convention. For more information
on the training, please see the attached Concept Paper.
We
are writing to ask your help in identifying potential participants who
will be strong trainers and advocates for women’s rights using the OP
CEDAW. Although not all of you are in the
MENA region, you can pass it on to your colleagues and friends who have MENA
base.
Participants
will be selected based on the strength of their applications and the following
criteria:
·
Women’s
human rights activist or lawyers from the Middle East or North Africa
preferably working with an NGO;
·
Demonstrated
understanding of CEDAW and its potential as a tool to advance women’s human
rights;
·
Commitment
to working on CEDAW and the OP CEDAW and using the learnings of this training
to advance women’s human rights concerns;
·
Geographical
representation including women’s groups from different countries, regions and
networks.
Full
funding is available on a limited basis. Due to the limited number of
spaces, not all applicants will be selected to participate in the training.
To apply for the training, please complete the attached application form and email to iwraw-ap@iwraw-ap.org and hadylamya@yahoo.com or fax it to +603 2283 2552 by Sunday, 9 August 2009.
