WHAT IS THE FAMILY? Governments often talk about the FAMILY, and even refer to
the traditional nuclear family of mother, father, 2 + children. Today's family
has changed around the world.
When social policies are
formulated, on FAMILY ISSUES, it is important for gender advocates to
consider available statistics, demographics, and present realities and issues
regarding the changing dimensions of FAMILIES.

"The traditional Roman family
is disappearing from Rome.
According to a dossier prepared on
families and childhood in the Italian Capital of Rome, 42% of the population
are what Italian media calls 'unipersonali' (childless couples or single
parents)....
Today, 75.3% of families in Rome do
not comply with the traditional definition of 'family' - Only 24.7% consist of
parents and children. Over 14% of families consist of one parent and one or
more children."
