Gender-Focused Example:

As part of the Huairou Commission's effort to build a partnership on sustainable environmental management with the UN Global Environmental Facility, the Commission would like to highlight the four member groups and partners of the Commission that have received a grant from the UN GEF Small Grant Program to promote women's leadership and sustainable development. Current awardees include the Covenant Centre for Development (CCD) of India, the Union de Cooperativa Las Brumas of Nicaragua, Ntankah Village Women Collective of Cameroon, and Bancos Communales of Peru. A description of each of the initiatives these groups are leading is provided below.

Established in 1992, the year of the Rio Earth Summit, SGP embodies the very essence of sustainable development. SGP channels financial and technical support directly to NGOs and CBOs for activities that conserve and restore the environment while enhancing people's well-being and livelihoods.

Small Grants Programme

The Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme aims to deliver global environmental benefits in the GEF Focal Areas of biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, protection of international waters, prevention of land degradation (primarily desertification and deforestation), and elimination of persistent organic pollutants through community-based approaches.
