This video documents the perspectives and practices in the area of disaster
resilience, from GROOTS organizations in Latin
America and the Caribbean.
In March of 2008, GROOTS International was invited by the ProVention Consortium to facilitate one of their consultative
meetings in the region. The consultative meetings served as preparation
for the ProVention Annual Global Forum in Panama in April, 2008. GROOTS organized a four day
consultative meeting with grassroots and indigenous women's groups from Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Peru, and Mexico to share their experiences in making their communities
less vulnerable to disasters. Groups developed recommendations that
representatives then presented in the Global Forum. The meeting
received was hosted by Fundacion Guatemala and received support from American Jewish World
Service and the UNDP Gender Unit. For the full report on the meeting,
