OUR BELIEF

Empowered Women International (EWI) was founded upon a Romanian immigrant woman’s unwavering belief in the resilience of immigrant and refugee women, and her personal commitment to advancing their futures and celebrating their origins. Incorporated in 2002, EWI is a educational and charitable 501(c) 3 organization, and is sustained through individual contributions, community investment and volunteer support.

MISSION

Empowered Women International provides a network of support for immigrant and refugee women in the DC Metro area using the arts as a tool of empowerment, communication and cultural understanding.

GOALS

  • Empower immigrant and refugee women to succeed in their personal and professional lives;
  • Advance and promote their creative arts while preserving cultural traditions and values;
  • Build public awareness and support for immigrant women and their communities in the DC metro area through exposure to their art and cultural heritages.

       Jacky Bong Wright, a native of Vietnam is the author of Autumn Cloud >From Vietnam War Widow to American Activist. The book is a richly evocative memoir about the spirit and strength of the Vietnamese people, and one woman's struggle to rebuild her life after the devastation of the Vietnam War.

       Jackie Bong Wright is chairperson of Wright International, Inc. After she immigrated to
America, she helped found the Indochinese Refugees Social Services, Inc. and continues to be active in Vietnamese refugee issues today.  She is currently the Community Liaison Specialist for Fairfax County Senior Services and President & CEO of the Vietnamese-American Voters Association (VAVA), and she writes for the Asian Fortune newspaper. She is married to career diplomat Lacy Wright and lives in the Washington, D.C. area.
