HELP FIGHT CHILD ABUSE
"Traveling is a great
eye-opener. For most of us, it offers an exciting opportunity to drink in other
cultures and explore new destinations.
Sometimes, however, we see only what
we want to see. In our enthusiasm to take in all the sights, we might only
focus on the enjoyable aspects of our journey and quietly airbrush away in our
mind, scenes of social deprivation or injustice that we would prefer not to be
confronted with.
Child prostitution thrives on
tourism. The same infrastructure that has enabled us to arrive at our holiday
destination or business convention, has also permitted the child abuser to
travel to his "hunting ground," and exploit the most vulnerable
people in our society - children, whose lives are overshadowed by sexual abuse
and who live daily with mental and physical violence.
It may be happening in hotels,
cafes, and bars. The normal venues of the tourist industry are also very often
the places where child abuse perpetrators operate.
We can all be more mindful on our
travels. If you are suspicious of any activity which you think might be related
to child prostitution or abuse, report it to your hotel, tour or air operator,
national embassy, or the local police.
Please be aware and hlep stop the
child sex trade."
