DRAFT RESOLUTION LETTER - PAGE 1 - IS PASTED BELOW. Please open ATTACHED FILE to read FULL RESOLUTION.

Via WEDO - We are happy to report that in the last meeting of the 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly today September 15, 2008, member states adopted by consensus a resolution moving the Gender Equality Architecture Reform process forward. Please find attached a copy of the draft resolution on System Wide Coherence received on Friday, together with the President of the GA’s communication to member states.  In paragraph 5, the resolution “requests the Secretary-General to provide a further, detailed modalities paper in respect to the options set out in the Deputy Secretary-General’s paper…focusing in particular on the “Composite Entity” option with a view to facilitating substantive action by the General Assembly within the 63rd session.”  The resolution also notes several topics such as funding, governance structure etc which should be addressed in the new paper.

This marks the happy end of what has been an intense GA session for all of us. It also means that the issue will be substantively taken on by the 63rd session of the GA, and our continued input/participation is now more critical than ever as the UN Secretariat and the GA membership elaborate on the details of the new women’s entity.

Congratulations to all, although we still have work to do!
