International Congress on Women and the Media, entitled “Violence Against
Women, Information or Spectacle?” will be held on 27-28 October 2008, in

Congress is organized by the Valencia Regional Authorities for Social Affairs in
collaboration with the Zero Tolerance Foundation (Fundación de la Comunidad
Valenciana Frente a la Discriminación y los Malos Tratos) and the Coso
Foundation (Fundación de la Comunidad Valenciana para el Desarrollo de la
Comunicación y la Sociedad).
The
objective of the Congress is to contribute to an open and constructive dialogue
between media professionals and other experts on gender violence. The role of
media professionals in reporting violence against women will be analyzed and
proposals with an aim at encouraging good practice when reporting on this issue
will be developed. The Congress is expected to produce a participatory and
multi-disciplinary document/guide that will help improve news coverage by the
media in cases of violence against women. For registration and updates please
