*63% of countries have achieved
gender parity in PRIMARY education
*37% of countries have achieved
gender parity in SECONDARY education.
*Gender disparities in secondary
education are greater than in primary.
*Girls still account for 60% of
out-of-school children in the Arab States and
66% in South and West Asia.
*There are 774 million adult
illiterates. 75% of illiterate adults live in 15 countries. 64%
are women. The number of
illiterate adults increased in sub-Saharan Africa and Arab
States.
*Projections show that on current
trends, the goal of eliminating gender disparities
at both the primary and
secondary levels will be missed in 2015 in over 90 countries
out of 172.
