Corner: Controversy over Orders for Protection Still Occurs in Minnesota
In
a recent issue in Bench & Bar, a monthly publication for Minnesota
lawyers, an article was published entitled, “Orders for Protection:
When the Shield Becomes a Sword.” The authors claimed that the domestic abuse
order for protection was being misused. This letter to the editor provides a
response asserting that the article perpetuates several myths about domestic

Periodic Review Monitor: Morocco Final Report
The
UPR Monitor is the latest addition to publications by the International
Service for Human Rights (ISHR). It aims to provide timely information on the

The
Lawyers Collective Women’s Rights Initiative of India has released a report
that looks back at the history of the Protection of Women from Domestic

Handbook for Protection of Women and Girls
The
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has recently released a
handbook about violence and state’s obligations to protect women against

Five
years into the Darfur conflict, women and girls need protection from rape and
brutal attacks still being committed by government forces and armed groups throughout

Series Takes on Culture of Silence on Violence against Women
Violence
against women is the theme of Women on the Frontline, a series of seven films
being broadcast for the first time by BBC World at 1930 GMT to about 300
million households to help peel away the silence surrounding the brutality of

the Children Sweden has recently published a report entitled
"Gender-Based Sexual Violence Against Teenage Girls in the Middle

New CDC
Study Estimates That a Quarter of US Women Face Domestic Violence
A
recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study showed that
one-quarter of US women have suffered "intimate partner violence"
at some point in their lives, meaning that an estimated 1,200 women are
killed and 2 million more are injured in domestic disputes resulting in

La Strada
International Releases New Report Directly Linking Trafficking in Women and
the Violation of Women's Rights
On
8 March 2008, International Women's Day, La Strada International, the
European network of human rights organisations active in the prevention of
trafficking in human beings with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe,
presented its report "Violation of women's rights: a cause and
consequence of trafficking in women" and launched a common La Strada
campaign to be implemented in all La Strada countries during 2008. (More
