 UNDP Pacific Centre – CAPWIP

“Making Governance Gender Responsive” Training

 26-30 May 2008

Applications Due 5 May 2008

1.   The UNDP Pacific Centre is committed to promoting gender mainstreaming in its work programmes, and to supporting partners to ensure gender is integrated into their own activities. In furtherance of this objective, the Pacific Centre is partnering with the Center for Asia-Pacific Women in Politics (CAPWIP) to run CAPWIP’s course on “Making Governance Gender Responsive” (MGGR) in the Pacific for Pacific civil society organisations.

2.   The “Making Governance Gender Responsive” course will be held in Suva, Fiji from Monday 26 May to Friday 30 May 2008. In addition to upskilling participants on general gender principles and issues, the course will cover such topics as gender analysis, gender auditing, gender budgeting and change management.

3.   It is anticipated that up to 30 CSO representatives will participate in the course, including up to 15 CSO representatives from outside Fiji. The UNDP Pacific Centre envisages that participation of CSO’s at the MGGR training will contribute to building capacity in region to mainstream gender, and specifically to strengthen the ability of CSOs to ensure their governance work is gender sensitive.

4.   The UNDP Pacific Centre is now accepting expressions of interest from eligible CSOs to participate in the May 2007 “Making Governance Gender Responsive” course.  Eligible Pacific NGOs/CSO are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by completing the attached questionnaire.  To be considered, NGO/CSO Expressions of Interest must demonstrate:

·      A commitment to human rights and gender equality;

·      Clear evidence of the organisations work on good governance activities and/or high-level policy advocacy

·      Relevant skills/experience/expertise by both the NGO/CSO and the individual nominated by the NGO/CSO;

·      A plan to ensure that they link the CAPWIP MGGR training with work they undertake at the Pacific regional, national or local level

5.   The UNDP Pacific Centre will cover the costs of travel, accommodation and a subsistence allowance for participants selected from CSOs which are located outside Fiji.

6.   Completed Expressions of Interest must be submitted electronically to registry.pacificcentre@undp.org copied to Isikeli.valemei@undp.org by COB on 5 May 2008. For any queries, please contact Isikeli Valemei by email at isikeli.valemei@undp.org or by phone on (679) 3300399 or fax on (679) 3301 976.
