New South Wales Police say they are working hard with other government agencies to obtain evidence of child sexual assault by truck drivers in the border towns of Boggabilla and Moree.

Aboriginal teenage girls have told the ABC's Lateline program that girls as young as eight are being targeted by truck drivers offering cash for sex.

All the Aboriginal women and girls who spoke with the program said the truck drivers preferred younger girls.

"I've heard heaps of them say they're looking for 16 years and under, 15, you know. Under the legal age," one girl said,

"A lot, they want young girls."

Aboriginal women and girls say the sex trade with truck drivers is driven by a need for cash and drugs - particularly amphetamines and marijuana.

A spokeswoman says police are continuing to work closely with the community to gain information that could lead to arrests.

A spokesman from the Australian Trucking Association told Lateline most trucking companies ban passengers from the cabs of their trucks and that professional truck drivers know that their truck cabin is a workplace.
