An honor
killing is the murder of a woman for a supposed sexual, marital, or offense.
The killing is typically done by her own relatives with the justification that
her behavior has brought dishonor to the family. Unlike rage-induced murders,
honour killings are usually planned in advance. In societies and cultures where
they occur, such killings are often regarded as a private matter for the
affected family alone, and the courts rarely become involved or prosecute the
