37.Adolescent health also remains a
challenge in several respects. One persistent issue is that of early sexual
activity, which, especially for girls, can also be unwanted or coerced. The

Distr.General 15 August 2007 Original: ENGLISH |
Sixty-second session
Item 68 (b) of the provisional
agenda
Promotion and protection of the
rights of children:
Follow-up to the outcome of the
special session on children
FOLLOW-UP TO THE SPECIAL SESSION OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON CHILDREN
Report of the Secretary-General
Summary:
The present report has been prepared
in response to General Assembly Resolutions 58/282 of 19 April 2004 and 61/272
of 29 June 2007 in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to
prepare an updated comprehensive report on progress achieved in realizing the
commitments set out in the final document of the twenty-seventh special session
of the Assembly, entitled "A World Fit For Children," (Resolution
S/27-2, annex) with a view to identifying new challenges and making
recommendations on actions needed to achieve further progress. The present
report notes that failure to achieve the goals of the 2002 Special Session of
the General Assembly on Children will significantly undermine efforts towards
realizing the aspirations of the United Nations Millennium Declaration
(Resolution 55/2) and the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 and beyond. It
calls for a scaled-up response by Governments to the maximum extent of their
capacities, increased commitments from the international community and stronger
partnerships to achieve the goals of the Special Session on Children.
