and Prospects on Water:
Striving for Sustainability in a Changing World"
WOMEN & WATER
In
many developing countries, women and girls walk on average six kilometres each
day to fetch water. They carry around 20 kilograms -- the equivalent of a cabin
luggage -- on their heads.
Women are the hardest hit by limited
quantities and poor quality water since in developing countries it is they who
are responsible for supplying freshwater for the household and agricultural
activities of their families and communities. They often spend hours every day
fetching water to provide for their family's needs.
