The Third Women's Human Rights Activities Award
(Yayori Award) 2007

What is the Yayori Award?

The Women's Fund for Peace and Human Rights, which was authorized as an NPO in 2003, focuses on the global promotion of women's human rights and peace affecting the past, present, and future.
Our main activities include managing the Women's Active Museum on War and Peace and carrying out the Women's Human Rights Activities Award (the Yayori Award). We would like to utilize the Yayori Award as an opportunity to encourage people to follow in Yayori's passionate and courageous activism with women throughout Asia. Please join us.

The Women's Fund for Peace and Human Rights

To our friends:
At long last we launched the Women's Human Rights Activities Award (the Yayori Award), which is based on Yayori's last will and funds. Yayori Matsui was a journalist and activist with global perspectives who consistently spoke up for women and other marginalized peoples. She would surely wish for the Yayori Award to encourage women who are struggling to achieve their goals despite their challenging environments. Our wish is that many people will apply for this award, which was created out of her passion and hope.

Rutsuko Shoji
Chairperson of board members for the Women's Fund for Peace and Human Rights

A Message from the Women's Active Museum on War and Peace
The Women's Active Museum on War and Peace opened in the summer of 2005, marking the 60th year from the end of WWII and the 10th year from the Beijing Conference on Women. The museum took the first step in recording the testimonies of women victims/survivors of war and conflicts, documenting the Women's International War Crimes Tribunal on Japan's Military Sexual Slavery, and becoming a hub of women activists aiming to stop war and eliminate all forms of violence in war and conflicts.
The Museum will encourage women and young people who are fighting for the creation of a non-violent and peaceful society where women's human rights are respected. We will work together with the Women's Human Rights Activities Award (or Yayori Award), which will empower women and help to develop a new movement.

Rumiko Nishino
The Director of the Women's Active Museum on War and Peace
