FEMINORE is a cross-sectoral research network funded under the Nordplus Neighbour programme 2005 - 2007, from the Nordic Council of Ministers. The aim of the network is to bring together existing national research and practical NGO experience on female migration from North-West Russia and the Baltic countries to the Nordic countries, with special focus on marriage, sex work and domestic work.
The 'Nordic Neighbour' region offers a managable setting for exploring the transnational issue of female migration, for exchanging competences between countries, and for searching and finding joint solutions to common challenges. Through FEMINORE, we aim to accumulate cross-national and cross-sectional knowledge, which can be used to jointly deal with legal and illegal migration, as well as with exploitation of female migrants - as wives or within unregulated work sectors.
The network is furthermore committed to the tasks of increasing mutual
understanding and revising stereotypes across the Nordic and Adjacent area, by
exchanging experiences and competences between researchers and NGOs, and by
disseminating such transnationally 'value added' knowledge to relevant social
actors and the public.
Anyone who's interested in being included or affiliated to the FEMINORE
network, or who wants to take part in future workshops (see seminars/workshops
page), can contact the coordinator Dag Stenvoll.
