Kayunga

THE Uganda Women Network has constructed a home in Kayunga district to cater for victims of domestic violence. The victims will also be given funds to initiate income generating activities.

The Shs300 million home was commissioned by the deputy speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaaga at Bulyankuyege village in Kayunga recently.

The project coordinator Solomey Nakaweesi said the home would accommodate about 50 victims of domestic violence but that the number would increase with time.

Ms Nakaweesi said surviviors of acid attacks would also be accommodated in the home.

"Kayunga is one of the districts that has a big number of domestic violence victims. We want to improve the lives of these people and also build hope by constructing for them a descent home," she said.

Ms Nakawesi said lack of a family law is partly to blame for the increasing number of domestic violence victims.

She urged members of Parliament to expedite the enactment of the law.
