The Action «16 Days Against Violence» is conducted all over the world under aegis of the United Nations Organization for the 15th time. The International Jewish Women’s organization Project Kesher which this year received accreditation in the UN committee on women’s rights took active part for the 6th time.

These dates emphasize the symbolic link between violence against women and violation of human rights.

Another date - December 1 – «World AIDS Awareness Day”, also falls into this period of 16 days, what is as well rather symbolic and extends the topic of the action with the issue of women’s health.

During 16 days between these symbolic dates, Project Kesher has united 101 women’s groups of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Israel, which, by moving their communities, involving into cooperation many women’s, human rights organizations, governmental agencies, were looking for ways to settle the issues of violence against children and women, of preserving women’s health and health of the society, building a tolerant society, counteraction to expansion of AIDS, HIV infection, drug addiction.

For more than 6 years now issues of women’s life – counteraction to domestic violence, counteraction to all forms of slavery, women’s health, both physical and psychological, safety in the streets – are reflected in Project Kesher programs. There exists and permanently expands a program of social activism of women’s groups which is directed at reduction of violence in the society, at counteraction to xenophobia and anti-Semitism, at establishment of inter-ethnic coalitions, women’s coalitions, at development of tolerant relations.
