We would like to tell you about HuriSearch, the human
rights search engine:
http://www.hurisearch.org/
HuriSearch is a very
useful resource for human rights researchers and advocates, academic staff and
students, journalists, diplomats and staff of international organisations - in
fact anyone who is interested in human rights and needs an effective Internet
search tool.
HuriSearch searches the content of over 3000 human
rights websites, with a total of more than 2.6 million pages. This content is
always fresh, because HuriSearch indexes the content of these websites very
frequently.
HuriSearch analyses the search results to keywords relevant
to human rights. Several of these keywords are particularly useful to
organisations working for the protection of women's rights:
women,
gender-based discrimination, gender-based persecution, abortion, reproductive
health, sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, female genital mutilation,
prostitution, trafficking, girl-child.
See the list of HURIDOCS index
terms, on right margin of any search results page. Select one or more of the
keywords that appear, in order to access the web-pages which mention them.
The source of information is crucially important in human rights
work. HuriSearch makes it possible to focus searches on information published in
a particular country, by a particular type of organization, by a specific
organisation, or in a specific language.
The HuriSearch
website is available in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, German,
Russian, Arabic, and Chinese. HuriSearch allows to search information in 77
languages.
Search results are based upon relevance of contents rather
than website popularity – which makes the pages from smaller organisations more
visible than on the other search engines.
