November 25 is UN declared an International Day on the Eliminating all Forms of Violence Against Women. This day is a memorial day of Mirobal sisters who were killed on this day in Dominican Republic, and who were political activists.
On this day in different countries it is held different campaigns to charge all forms of violence against women. Concerning this historical day, Social Union for Women Problems “Clean World” joined “16 Days Activity against Gender Violence” campaign and have been holding different events during 16 days.
Our organization has been holding seminar-trainings with 18 women on issues like the role of women in society and family, and women rights on Saturdays and Sundays since November 25. 18 women studying and working in different institutions and distinguishing with their social activities are participating in these seminars.
The issues like “What is a violence, what are reasons of it?”, “Gender and conflicts”, “Mediators”, “How can it be managed to reduce violence in families?”, “laws on preventing violence against women in Republic” are discussed in these seminars.
Furthermore, the members of our organization distributed papers with slogan “let us stop violence against women!” to men in Baku streets in evenings. We also plan to conduct two days seminars for journalist women. The main purpose of these seminars is to keep this problem under consideration of Mass Media.
On December 1, we conducted another event on the issue of AIDS with the potential victims of this disease. Our organization provided potential victims (sex labors) with educational booklets and condoms. Then gynecologist of our organization provided them with medicine advices.
During “16 Days Activity Against Gender Violence” Campaign our organization has held three days seminar with immigrant women in Azerbaijan in these days. 25 immigrant women are participating in these seminars. The topic of seminars is “Conflicts and gender”. Afghani, Chechenian, Iranian, Iraqian and other refugee women are participating in these seminars.
On the end day of the campaign we plan to hold a Roundtable on violence against women problem with other women NGOs, and Mass Media.
