Third Regional Training Course on Gender, Citizenship and Participatory Governance for the Middle East and North Africa Region

Programme

This course, tailored for the Middle East and North Africa region, aims to provide a gender analysis of the governance, citizenship and related institutions and to familiarize participants with strategies to ensure that gender equality is prioritized in the governance agenda. 

Participants will acquire knowledge about gender analysis and why rights-based approaches are important for development in the Arab region; the impact of changes in the Arab region on women’s rights and gender equality; how to enhance women’s political effectiveness; the role of civil society in holding governments accountable for gender equality commitments; and how marginalized groups can be assisted in claiming citizenship and equal rights.

Admission

Admission criteria
Knowledge of gender and development concepts and working experience in this area. Experience in the field of human rights, governance and related areas will also be favourably considered. 
Proficiency in English and/or Arabic and computer skills are an added advantage. The course is run in English and Arabic.

A final selection of eligible candidates will be made soon after the submission deadline. Selected candidates will receive an approval letter and a financial statement to be completed by their sponsoring agency.

As soon as CRTD.A receives the completed and signed financial statement, a confirmation of admission will be sent out, followed by additional information related to participation in the course.

Practical information

Tuition fees
The 2007 tuition fee will be announced soon. Tuition fees cover training and the costs of the required literature, stationery, the course reader and a small resources library for participants. They do not cover accommodations, insurance, meals, entry visa or other expenses.

Financial assistance
The arrangement of financial support to cover all study costs is the responsibility of the applicant. KIT does not offer financial support or fellowships.

Visa requirements
Participants who are not Lebanese nationals are responsible for obtaining a valid entrance visa to Lebanon.

A single entry visa to Lebanon is issued at the airport for citizens of Western Europe (except the United Kingdom) and North America. For all other nationalities, check with the Lebanese consulate in your country.

A Lebanese visa may take more than 1 week to be issued. Accepted applicants who have submitted a completed and signed financial statement will be issued an invitation letter addressed to the Lebanese Embassy in their countries which will allow them to apply for an entrance visa to Lebanon.

A single entrance visa to Lebanon costs approximately € 40.

Insurance requirements
All course participants and their accompanying dependents must have health, accident and third party insurance upon arrival in Lebanon.

Participants must ensure that they have appropriate insurance coverage. Participants using medication must make sure that they bring it in sufficient quantity, accompanied by a doctor’s prescription note.
