Report:
Each year at least 1.6 million newborns die
in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Africa region has the highest rate of neonatal
mortality in the world, and has shown the slowest progress so far in reducing
neonatal deaths.
Over a million African babies are estimated to die
in the first 4 weeks of life - but most
die at home, uncounted, and invisible to national
and regional policies and programmes.
