Steps for Domestic Violence Victims

The Korea Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said that the state will pay for the treatment of injuries inflicted on domestic violence victims.

A ministry official said that a revised law on the prevention of domestic violence took effect on Nov. 1 so that victims could have better protection.

Victimized children could transfer to a school in another school district without the consent of their abuser custodians under the revised law.

The law also calls for the chiefs of administrative units and the heads of education boards to manage and supervise the transfer or other relevant school registry confidentially to protect the victims.

The state or the local autonomous government is obliged to pay the treatment fees if the domestic violence victims so desire.

The revision calls for extended shelters for domestic violence victims as well as preventive education programs in school.
