Conference Report is Attached.

I would like to share with you (for distribution) the report of the recent expert workshop on Developing a Security Sector Reform (SSR) Concept for the United Nations

This workshop was organised by the Slovak Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, with the support of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).  The workshop marked the beginning of a series of discussions on the UN’s approach to SSR, to prepare the basis for the ministerial meeting of the Security Council on this topic to be held in the course of Slovakia’s presidency of the Security Council  in early 2007.  The key objective of the expert workshop was to launch a broad discussion on the role of SSR within the UN system in order to increase understanding of the issue and to explore options for developing a UN policy framework for SSR.

It is important that those interested in advancing work on women, peace and security, and on better integrating a gender perspective in SSR, are involved in any process of developing a UN policy framework for SSR.
