The Hungarian Women's Media Lobby helps media-women's professional improvement through professional meetings and training. We believe that the promotion of female journalists is the key to a profound visualization of women's realities and the development of a feminist public in Hungary.
With the exception of women's magazines, the majority of media texts are produced by men for men from male perspective.
Violence against women is the only area where significant change has been achieved, and as a result of our campaigns in 2003, the media environment became much more women-friendly. Still, gender parity has not been reached in media leadership and women's health, labor and human rights issues still do not get adequate coverage.
Our aim is to achieve fair representation and more frequent appearance of women in the media in non-stereotypical roles.
The Media Lobby association was founded by 20 prominent female media personalities, communications researchers and PR experts in September 2003 in order to help achieve equal access for women in the media and through the media. Our founding members include Ilona Mélykuti (senior journalist from MTV, Hungarian National Television), Krisztina Bombera (reporter and evening news anchor person, TV2 commercial television station), Ágnes Féderer (journalist, Népszabadság, Hungary's largest daily), Mónika Mátay (faculty, ELTE Communications), Judit Spielberger (PR expert), Ágnes Karácsony (editor-in-chief, 168 óra political weekly), Ida Csapó (president of Minok), Rimma Dalos (MONA) and Éva Monspart (formerly of Nők Lapja). Our supporting members include Ágota Kovács (editor-in-chief, Tilos Rádió, independent radio station), Viktória Szíj (PR expert), Sonia Jaffe Robbins (Village Voice, NEWW), Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.
Our new members include media personalities working for the largest daily newspapers and TV evening news as journalists, photographers or editors as well as PR experts and human rights activists. The Media Lobby, a rapidly growing, dynamic organization, is run by volunteers.
