WHAT IS TBIO?
The
Turn Beauty Inside Out (TBIO) Campaign is coordinated by the non-profit
organization, Mind on the Media. TBIO raises awareness of images of
girls and
women in the media and encourages discussion about these images. Mind on the
Media is concerned about stereotypes in all forms of mass media. We want
girls and
women (and boys and men) to think more positively about women and
girls.
We focus on helping girls &
boys understand media messages better so they can make smart decisions about
media and speak out about what they like and don’t like.
WHAT IS THE TBIO
2006 GIRLS LEADERSHIP RETREAT?
TBIO Girls Leadership
Retreat is part of the annual campaign. In 2006 we will focus on the music
industry. We’ll be asking the big question: Why aren’t there as many women
as men in the music industry — as performers, writers, musicians, and producers?
Then, we’ll give girls
resources, knowledge, and skills to create their own opportunities in the field.
The four days are packed with active learning workshops, panels, and
presentations led by industry professionals, motivational speakers and media
activists.
WORKSHOP TOPICS For
Girls & Parents/Mentors include:
Media Literacy, Positive Body Image,
Building Positive Relationships, Youth Activism, Women in Music Careers...and
many more! This retreat is open to all girls ages
8-16 and their parents and/or mentors.
