Situation of women and girls in
Afghanistan
The Commission on the
Status of Women,
Recalling
General Assembly resolutions 60/32 A
and B of 30 November 2005, in particular the references to the situation of
women and girls,
Recalling also
Security Council resolutions 1589
(2005) of 24 March 2005 and 1659 (2006) of 15 February 2006 on the situation in
Afghanistan and 1325 (2000) of 31 October 2000 on women and peace and
security,
Recalling further
Economic and Social Council resolution
2005/8 of 21 July 2005,
1. Welcomes the
report of the Secretary-General on the situation of women and girls in
Afghanistan;
2. Welcomes also the
references to the situation of women and girls in General Assembly resolutions
60/32 A and B;
3. Requests the
Secretary-General to take into account a gender perspective when preparing the
reports requested in General Assembly resolutions 60/32 A and B and to include a
specific and substantive section focusing on the situation of women and girls in
Afghanistan in those reports;
4. Also requests the
Secretary-General to transmit those reports to the Commission on the Status of
Women at its fifty-first session.
