The document is a
chapter from a forthcoming handbook on gender mainstreaming in humanitarian
action developed by the UN Inter-Agency Standing Committee and partner
organizations. It is meant to serve as a resource for policy-makers and
practitioners on how to ensure that gender concerns are integrated into all
protection and assistance programs in humanitarian emergencies. The education
