Developing capacity to achieve gender equality in education

Capacity building for gender equality in education
Oxfam / Oxfam , 2005

This paper shows the ways in which individual, organisational, and institutional capacity all play important roles in producing positive educational results for girls and boys.

The paper concludes that developing capacity for gender equality involves implementing a range of strategies, such as gender training for both male and female administrators and teachers to raise awareness and to provide necessary skills for gender analysis, and initiatives to increase women’s visibility within organisations, for example through using quotas. Developing capacity means focusing on gender concerns within organisations, and mainstreaming gender issues an integral part of educational planning processes. The appropriate allocation of financial resources must also be built in to these processes for them to succeed.
