From the U.N. Study: "The Conventions on Slavery of 1926 and 1956 can
be used to address some grave traditional abuses against women such as
debt bondage, transfer of widows as new spouses, transfer and
exploitation of young people (whether or not parents or guardians are
paid), non-consensual marriage against dowry payments to parents,
guardians or others...Such abuses need to be treated in the present study."
